As the number of breast cancer patients of childbearing age increases, there is a growing interest in the possibility of pregnancy during treatment. In particular, patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer—which accounts for about 70% of all cases—have often faced difficulties planning a pregnancy because they must take 'Tamoxifen' for at least five years after surgery.

Recently, a research team led by Professor Jung Min-sung at Hanyang University Hospital's Department of Surgery published promising findings for breast cancer patients of childbearing age. An analysis using National Health Insurance data proved that temporarily pausing Tamoxifen to conceive does not increase the risk of cancer recurrence or negatively impact overall survival rates.

If you are a breast cancer patient, please do not prematurely give up on pregnancy and childbirth. Instead, we encourage you to consult thoroughly with your doctor to plan safely.
