Chilblains are a skin inflammation that develops after prolonged exposure to low temperatures of around 5–10°C (41–50°F) or damp, cold conditions. They are a milder form of cold-related injury than frostbite, but if symptoms are severe or keep recurring, please see a medical specialist.2026-06-26

Frostbite
#Frostbite, #Cold-related illness, #Chilblains, #Cold wave, #Necrosis, #Fingers, #Toes, #Winter health
Frostbite occurs when body tissue exposed to severe cold freezes. It most often affects exposed areas such as the fingers, toes, nose, and ears. In severe cases, the tissue can undergo necrosis (tissue death), which may require amputation of the affected body part. If you suspect frostbite, protect the area from refreezing and seek medical care right away.2026-06-26

Hypothermia refers to a drop in core body temperature to 35°C or below. The lower the body temperature falls, the more dangerous the condition becomes, and in severe cases it can lead to cardiac arrest. It can occur with prolonged exposure to extreme cold or cold environments, and extra caution is needed when alcohol has been consumed. If hypothermia is suspected, please call 119 immediately or go to a hospital.2026-06-26
